The Child Trauma Response Team, a program of Safe Horizon, works in partnership with the District Attorney's Offices and NYPD. It is designed to provide a swift and coordinated response to families after serious incidents of domestic violence. CTRT focuses on reducing the harmful impact of traumatic events on children and their involved caregivers. CTRT operates alongside 12 select police precincts in the boroughs of Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens. In these precincts, Safe Horizon’s child trauma responders and crime victim advocates work hand-in-hand with Domestic Violence Police Officers. They identify children and caregivers who have been impacted by domestic violence and provide timely, expert support. The Child Trauma Responders complete trauma screenings with children and caregivers to better understand the symptoms children and their caregivers are experiencing and how they are coping. They provide brief trauma-focused mental health interventions for child(ren) in age ranges of 0-17 in partnership with their caregiver.
