Bronx Independent Living Services (BILS) is a non-profit, community based organization dedicated to empower all people with disabilities to understand and exercise their civil and human rights in order to live fully integrated lives in mainstream society. Victims of Crime & Domestic Violence Services program is consistent with the person-centered approach that is at the heart of our center’s philosophy and culture. Our services to victims of crime and domestic violence vary with the needs of each individual. Furthermore; Crime Victims and domestic violence provides services and support to people with all disabilities including those previously unserved or underserved because of: barriers associated with disability; language and cultural barriers; a fear of disclosure and desire for anonymity; feelings of isolation and despondency; a lack of information about and understanding of the peer services, community resources and tools for personal empowerment that are actually available. services can include crisis interventions; assistance with filing compensation claims; referrals to safe havens; Personal advocacy; Criminal Justice advocacy and support; Benefits Advocacy; Fair hearings Advocacy; Individual Counseling; Support Groups & Workshops; Victims’ Rights Education. Our crime victims programs includes other services for example: case management and legal services that caters to specifically for victims of crime.
