Neighborhood SHOPP

Founded in 1980, Neighborhood Self Help by Older Persons Project (SHOPP) is a non-profit social service agency located in the Bronx serving older adults and families caring for an ill, frail or disabled loved one. SHOPP’s mission is based on the philosophy of self-help. We believe that older adults are capable of helping themselves and helping others improve their capacity to deal with the physical, emotional, social, and financial challenges they face as they age. SHOPP has several service programs in the Bronx that includes: Senior Network Group Work Program; SNAP Case Assistance Program (Benefits and Entitlements, ); VIP Elder Abuse Program and Crime Victims (Supportive Counseling, Advocacy, Installation of Locks, Information and Referral, Outreach, Obtaining Police Report, File Compensation Claims); NY Connects of the Bronx (Information and Assistance to help individuals make informed choices about long term care services and support); Casa Boricua, Leon, Soundview and Guess Senior Centers; Case Management & Friendly Visiting Program (focuses on planning, arranging and coordinating in-home services to maximize the functional independence, economic, and social wellbeing of Bronx homebound older adults residing in Community District 1-6); Caregivers Program (offers services, support, and educational workshops for persons who are providing unpaid care to loved ones or friends) and Lafayette Estates NORC Program (addresses the community and participants' needs where older residents reside and can access health and social services right in their own community development).
