The Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC) serves people who have been affected by sexual violence in Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben counties. Services include assistance with OVS compensation claims, short-term non-directive counseling, crisis intervention, support groups, a toll-free 24-hour hotline staffed largely by trained volunteers, information and referrals to appropriate community services, transportation assistance, legal and medical advocacy and accompaniments, and personal advocacy. SARC also provides community and professional education aimed at decreasing the risk of sexual violence. This entails instructing service professionals, such as law enforcement and medical personnel on how to better meet the needs of victims of sexual assault.
