Safe Horizon manages a citywide Helpline that streamlines and standardizes the intake process for the community programs. The Helpline allows a crime victim to reach community program staff members for services related to safety, immigration remedies, government entitlements, court involvement and/or housing service via traditional telephonic means. The Helpline staff supports the client in prioritizing their concerns and addresses urgent issues right away, via a safety assessment. The assessment is ongoing for as long as the client remains with Safe Horizon. Staff members routinely advocate on behalf of clients on many fronts, including seeking assistance from the criminal justice system, seeking crime victims’ compensation from OVS, securing financial benefits from HRA, or advocating with Adult Protective Services.
